Donation to Crimsham Veteran’s Hub
W Bro Roy Blunden from Owers Light Lodge [WM 2023 & 2024], who was joined by members of other Lodges, made a presentation of £400 to Matthew Cole – Director of Veterans Affairs at Crimsham Veteran’s Hub, Crimsham Farm, Lower Bognor Road, Lagness, Bognor Regis on 19th April 2025. This being W Bro Roy’s chosen charity whilst Worshipful Master in memory of our esteemed departed member Bro Ron David MM. Crimsham Farm was a favourite place where Bro Ron frequently visited to quietly rest and cogitate.
A bench in Bro Ron’s name has been purchased by the Crimsham Veteran’s Hub with donations received [Owers Light Lodge donated £100] and placed in the Remembrance Garden on the site.
Bro Ronald E [Ron] David MM was a highly respected member of the Lodge for twenty years up until his Passing in 2024. A quiet and private man who was always on hand to readily assist anyone in need. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery rescuing an Officer under fire whilst serving in the Military in Northern Ireland. A fact he did not divulge for many years and then only to one or two trusted friends.
Crimsham Veteran’s Hub works in liaison with medical and other veteran agencies to provide an invaluable welfare and respite wrap around service for military veterans and their families. These include providing assistance with such aspects as – transitioning back into civilian life, mitigating effects of PTSD, providing an essential peer specific social area and a monthly families’ breakfast club, to name just a few.

The Lodge gives ‘The Point’ Scope a little help
In accordance with normal custom, the Worshipful Master of the Lodge decides which charity should receive a donation from Lodge charity funds collected from the members during his year as Worshipful Master. The WM Installed in March 2019 [and still in place because of the Covid-19 Pandemic] is W Bro Colin Ballard. Having patiently waited since March 2020 to donate a sum to charity it was decided that now [December 2020] would be the right time to go ahead and help a deserving charity and Scope was selected. Scope provides valuable services for people 18+ with a physical disability to live more independent lives.
A £600 donation from the Lodge, augmented by a Sussex Provincial Craft ‘Match Funding’ request, which the Lodge successfully applied for, meant that ‘The Point’, Scope, Chichester, West Sussex could be £1200 better off.

The Lodge supports the Sussex Mark 2019 Festival
At the regular meeting on 23rd November 2018 the Lodge members were pleased to make a donation to the Sussex Mark Province 2019 Festival. A cheque for £250 from the Lodge along with a further cheque for £50 from the Lodge of Instruction was presented to W Bro David Dumigan, Provincial Grand Secretary of the Sussex Mark Degree, by the Worshipful Master W Bro Michael J. Putnam.

Owers Light Lodge was delighted to be able to support Sam Hobden in her sponsored Dalai Lama India Trek on behalf of St Barnabas House Hospice.
The Trek is due to take place in October 2018 and all proceeds will go directly towards expanding the hospice care services for local adults and families. A cheque for £503, raised by the Lodge, was presented to Sam on 27th April 2018 at the dining after the Lodge meeting by the 2017/2018 Worshipful Master, W Bro Derek Waple. Good luck and well done Sam.

Fordwater Special School, Chichester, receives a charitable donation 
Pictured is the 2016/2017 Worshipful Master, W Bro Trevor Duval, along with our Charity Steward, W Bro Keith Cooper (left) and the Lodge Secretary, W Bro Bob Dixon (right), presenting a cheque for £2000 to Fordwater Special School, Chichester. The money was raised by donations from members and Lodge visitors throughout the year. Fordwater Special School was the personal choice of recipient by the Worshipful Master. A very worthy cause who do sterling work in the local community.

Local Sea Cadets receive a cheque
As stated earlier on our Trafalgar Night Meeting page, the proceeds of the raffle on these evenings, always go towards helping local Nautical Charities; from the Sea Scouts, T S Sturdy, Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society, to Selsey Lifeboat Station.
